The Bengaluru-based medical college, RajaRajeswari Medical College has been given approval for changing its ambit from under Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Services (RGUHS) to Dr MGR Educational and Research Institute. RajaRajeswari is one of the top medical colleges in Karnataka and now the college will be part of a Tamil Nadu Based Institute which deemed to be a University.
The University of Grants Commission had released an official notice stating that RajaRajeswari Medical College will no longer be a constituent college of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Services. The affiliation with Dr MGR Educational and Research Institute will begin from the academic year 2019-20.
The process to change the affiliation, the college will need to send an application to the UGC stating the change, the UGC will take that into consideration with an expert committee who will decide the fate of the college.

According to the VC of RGUHS, Dr Sachidanand, the process for disaffiliation with RGUHS had begun long before he had joined. The Principal, Dr Naveen S, of RajaRajeswari Medical College says that changing their affiliation to Dr MGR Educational and Research will give them a big boost, especially in terms of being able to financially support their research work.
This move will help them to grow and also introduce various courses which were difficult to do so in their previous affiliation.

The students who are currently studying at RajaRajeswari Medical College will receive their degrees from the previous affiliate, i.e. Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Services. However, students who would be joining the college in the academic year 2019-20 will be awarded their degrees from Dr MGR Educational and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu.
