The Kerala Assembly has approved the bill to regularize MBBS admissions. The bill - Kerala Professional Colleges (Regulation and Admission in Medical Colleges) will be beneficial to 180 students of Karuna Medical College and Kannur Medical College. Both these colleges were deemed illegal earlier by two official panels apart from the Medical Council of India. The two official panels were of the view that these state colleges lack transparency in their admission procedure.

The Supreme Court rejected the review petition filed by the Kerala state government on March 28, 2018. As per the petition, the government wanted to invalidate cancellations of the admissions in these colleges. According to the High Court, both the colleges lacked transparency in their admission process. But, the state government got unanimous support in the matter during the state assembly to pass the bill.

However, both KK Shylaja Health Minister and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated the main aim behind the bill was humanitarian considerations to save the future of innocent students who were penalized due to the technical errors are done by the management. The main logic behind the bill is to save the academic life of students and preventing their future from getting ruined. He further said that there is no collusion between the government and opposition. Neither are there any glitches in the bill. The only aim is to protect the future of the innocent students.
