A National Integration Camp was organised by Gauhati University from April 24 to April 30 which was sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt of India. The camp as organised by Gauhati University NSS Cell and Regional Directorate, NSS, Guwahati.
Participants from ten states of the country attended the programme. Dr. Ranjan Kumar Kakati, Director, Students Welfare and Programme Coordinator NSS, welcomed the dignitaries and participants. 200 NSS volunteers and 11NSS programme officers participated in the camp. Dr Mridul Hazarika, Vice Chancellor, GU, signified the importance of such camps and said that such camps would help build national integration and cultural exchange among different states.
The programme was felicitated by PB Acharya as the Chief Guest, Governor of Assam and Nagaland , wherein, highlighting their significance, he called upon the youths to play as a key role in the unity among the people of different states of north-east. In addition, he highlighted the prospects of different jobs in the state and said that the youth, instead of chasing jobs each time, should try to create multiple jobs and become job creators. The Governor also cited examples to tell the students on how India can rise to power and be an important nation provided all its citizens learn to respect each other and work towards the development of the nation and make individual sacrifices for its betterment. Addressing the problems of the youth of today, he expressed, “Our youths don’t understand the beauty of our resource; we simply love to follow the west only”.
