NCTE Launches ITEP Programme for Qualitative Change in Teachers

National Council for Teacher Education is launching a four- year Integrated Teacher Education Programme ITEP. The main objective behind the introduction of the course is to bring qualitative change in training teachers for the school system and to impart best practices of teacher education and training in the country.

The new programme by the NCTE is for all those candidates who aspire to become teachers from pre-primary to primary level and for upper-primary to secondary level school. Interested students can pursue the same after senior secondary or intermediate education.

The ITEP programme integrates general studies with science and maths, social sciences and humanities. The new course will maintain a balance between theory and practice.

The curriculum and implementation of the ITEP integrated course will be based on the model curriculum prepared by the NCTE. Also, the institutions which will offer the programme have the liberty to modify the model curriculum as per the local requirements of the students or the institute.

About ITEP Programme

It is a four-year programme divided into eight equal semesters which will include field-based experience, internship and teaching practice. Students who will be unable to clear any semester examination will be given with a maximum period of six years from the date of admission.

Eligibility Criteria for ITEP Programme

Admission to the ITEP programme is on the basis marks secured by the candidates in the intermediate education/senior secondary level or another equivalent examination.

The candidates will be required to indicate the subject which the plan to take in BA or B.Sc degree during the time of admission.

The application process for the NCTE ITEP programme has started from today i.e. 3rd December 2018 and will continue till 31st December 2018.
