North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Shillong hosted its 26th convocation ceremony on November 4, 2019. President Ram Nath Kovind attended the 26th convocation and delivered the convocation address. 14, 502 students were awarded convocation degrees.
While addressing the audience at the NEHU convocation, President Kovind congratulated the students and scholars who received their degrees and medals. He further said the convocation day is not only about graduating students but it is also a day to acknowledge the contribution of the parents and teachers for their affection and guidance. The President told the students higher education is a privilege and they should use their education to improve the condition of the unprivileged section of the society.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma also addressed the students at the convocation and expressed his happiness for their success and wished them good luck for the future. This year 76 percent of total gold medal awardees are girls. He added that this makes him extremely happy to see that female students of the state are doing so well. During his address, he added that he has attended various convocations and he has observed that girls have been outshining boys. This is a positive change in society and is a hope for a bright future.
The Honoris Causa was awarded to Kanubhai Hasmukhbhai Tailor for his outstanding contribution to the lives of differently-abled people. He is the Director and Founder of DWTI and his work has been an inspiration to many.
