Odisha Gets Two State-Run Medical Colleges after 54 years

Odisha Gets Two State-Run Medical Colleges after 54 years

After 54 years, Odisha has inaugurated the fourth government medical colleges in the state. Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital (SLNMCH) was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of the State, Naveen Patnaik on September 4, 2017.

Odisha will be inaugurating another government-run medical college this week. The Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College will be inaugurated on Wednesday, September 6, 2017. It will be the fifth state government-run medical college started by the state.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, CM Naveen Patnaik said that the state-governed medical college will facilitate quality health services for the people of the region. He added that it was another step taken by the state government to ensure equitable and sustainable development.

He also added that his government is working to enhance the medical education in the state to ensure that students get good opportunities within the state. Another focus of the government is to take into account tertiary care by engaging the community, the CM added.

Close to 100 MBBS students have taken admission in the first year at SLNMCH. The classes at the medical college will commence from September 5 i.e. on Teacher’s Day. The government has recruited 22 professors and 28 assistant professors who will be taking classes at SLNMCH

Odisha also has various private medical colleges that offer undergraduate as well as postgraduate courses.
