Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University is likely to get its new vice-chancellor next week.
The interviews of candidates interested for the post ended. A list of five names will be sent to governor C Vidyasagar Rao,who will select the seventh vice-chancellor of the varsity after the final round of interview, scheduled to be conducted at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai on June 1, 2.
Murlidhar Chandekar and Mrunalini Fadnavis are the main contenders for the post. So far the selection committee has conducted interviews of 25 candidates, out of which five names were scrutinised. The interviews were conducted between May 27 and May 29.
The final round of interview will be held at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. Five names shortlisted for the post will be sent on Monday.
Vice-chancellor in-charge Dr Vilas Sapkal, Kishore Adhav, Shankar Bundele, Jaikiran Tidke, MK Rai, Vilas Thakre were among the educationists who took part in the interview process.
Currently names of Vinayak Deshpande, Mrunalini Fadnavis, Murlidhar Chandekar are making rounds for the post. Satara's PM Khodke is also among the top contenders. He is a former principal of Amravati Government Engineering College.
It is pertinent to note here that Governor C Vidyasagar Rao has formed a committee for selecting new vice-chancellor.
Out of 83 applications received for the post of the vice-chancellor, 25 candidates were called for interviews.
Even though the governor has the power to select vice-chancellor, there is political interference in the selection of vice-chancellor.
