SPMVV Distance Learning Courses for PG Levels Gaining Popularity in Andhra and Telanagana

Women of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana who are economically or socially unable to pursue a full-time university course have been showing interests in the distance learning course of SPMVV. Music course has special popularity.

A gaining popularity trait has been noticed among the women who are aspiring to take post-graduate studies from Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) -offered distance courses in PG Level. Many women are registering for admissions to be a post-graduate in distance mode.

One of the prime reason behind the rising popularity is that many women are still unable economically and socially to pursue higher education in full-time institutes, for them, the SPMVV programmes of distance learning are no less than a boon to conduct higher studies. Even though several universities in the region are offering various similar facilities, this all-womens’ university has still been gaining popularity among women in two Telugu speaking states with challenging backgrounds to pursue their studies.

Started in 2000, the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) of SPMVV has been offering 8 programmes at PG level which are M.Sc in Mathematics and Zoology, M.Com, M.A. in Music, Telugu, Economics, English and Women's Studies. There is a presence of three PG diploma courses which are, Pre-School Education, Family and Health Counselling and Public Relations. A diploma programme in Music along with B.Ed course is also conducted in the university.

The Directorate of Distance Education in SPMVV has already invited applications from aspiring PG students to get enrolled for the courses of their choice in the academic year of 2019-20.

The last date for submitting applications has been set as 16th August 2019, as informed by the Director of Distance Education Prof. M Nirmala Jyothi. She added that after the final date, applications will be examined and admissions will be provided to eligible applicants who have to submit the prescribed fees.

The study materials will be provided by the university to the students and the students will have to attend contact programme classes on Sundays and holidays.

Prof Jyothi stated that the music programme in SPMVV through distance mode has attracted many women irrespective of age. Those who are in their 50s have also shown interest in joining the Music course as they want to get authentication in the form of a recognised university certificate for their talent.
