A group of students from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur have launched a hunger strike as a protest against the management for increasing registration fee from Rs. 29,000 to Rs. 30,000. The students claimed that hike is illegal and they will not withdraw the hunger strike until the management address their grievances. They demanded that the hike must be cancelled.

One of the students revealed that they demanded an open house meeting with Director of IIT-Kharagpur. They will call off the protest if the Director accepts to come for the meeting. The students are planning to ask a complete stay order on the registration fee hike.
In the month of April 2016, the students went on hunger strike as a protest against the Ministry of Human Resource and Development for increasing fee at IITs from Rs. 90,000 to Rs. 2,00,000.
The increase in fee is already a burden to the students, and now the hike in registration will cause an extra burden on the students. Hence, the students are demanding to withdraw the hike. So far, the authorities did not interfere to sort out the issue.

Earlier, the law students of Delhi University also went on hunger strike as a protest against the management. The reason for launching hunger strike was mass failures of students in the semester examinations. Even though the students appeared for the exam, some of the students were marked absent, and there were various issues regarding the declaration of the result. They withdrew the strike only after the authorities assured to sort out their grievances.
