Success Stories of Tata Group and Infosys to be a Part of New MBA Curriculum: AICTE

MBA and PGDM students of AICTE affiliated institutes will soon study the success of popular Indian firms such as Tata Group, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories and Infosys. AICTE has finalised the new curriculum for the management courses. Earlier, the higher education regulator constituted a panel to revamp the existing curriculum of the management courses. The idea to revamp the curriculum is to increase the employability of students.

Chairperson of AICTE Committee for Revamping Model Curriculum for Management Programmes, Dr. Bhimaraya Metri revealed that the classical examples of Indian firms and their success stories would play a supreme role in motivating the students. At present, management studentsin some universities across the countries take up the success stories of Indian firms as case studies. However, the success stories of these firms are not a part of MBA or PGDM curriculum. Therefore, the council has recommended for the revision of syllabus for management courses, he added.

The model curriculum for MBA and PGDM courses of AICTE will help the universities and institutes in framing their own syllabus. At present, there are over 2,000 management institutes across the country and around 2,00,000 students graduate from these institutes every year.

In the last two decades, several Indian firms or companies have made an impact on the global business scenario through innovation of latest business models. National Stock Exchange,Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Infosys and Tata Group are the best examples of successful Indian firms. It is the responsibility of the faculty to pick up these examples to motive the students.

The idea of AICTE to include success stories of Indian firms is good. However, the plan needs effective implementation. Apart from the success stories of companies, it is necessary for the students to have a detailed understanding of hardships and failures faced by these companies. Also, apart from the IIMs, all b-schools will include lessons on Kautilya’s Arthashastra in MBA syllabus, as well as, Indian ethics and concepts. The name of the subject will be 'Indian ethos and business ethics' and it will be mandatory for all students.

The revamped curriculum of MBA and PGDM course will have 96 credits instead of 105. Taking up an internship is mandatory as per the new curriculum.
