The University Grants Commission (UGC) has derecognised the distance learning courses offered by the University of Mumbai. Students who enrolled in distance learning courses offered by Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) of Mumbai University for the academic session 2018-19 are left in a lurch. The admission process of MU distance courses concluded on October 30, 2018, and many of them have confirmed their admission by paying the course fee.
The absence of NAAC grade or accreditation for Mumbai University is the only reason for de-recognition of distance learning courses. Since April 2017, the varsity has been struggling to apply for NAAC accreditation. As there is no NAAC accreditation or grade, the varsity should not have conducted admission process for distance courses. Now, the university is being criticised for conducting admission process for distance courses despite the absence of NAAC grade.
