150 New Universities Established in Last Three Years, Gujarat Tops List
MHRD informed Rajya Sabha that the government has established 150 new universities and 1,575 new colleges across the country in the last three years. Gujarat topped the list in terms of new universities while Uttar Pradesh topped in terms of the number of new colleges.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) informed that the government has set up 150 new universities in the last three years. Among all the states, Gujarat topped the list with 19 new universities followed by Madhya Pradesh with 16. In the year 2015-16, eight new universities were established in Gujarat followed by seven in 2016-17 and four in 2017-18. Majority of these universities belong to the private sector, clarified by HRD Ministry.
