46 AYUSH Medical Colleges Approved for Session 2016-17

The govt. has given its nod for the establishment of 46 AYUSH Medical Colleges. This will include 422 Ayurveda, 3 Unani and 1 Siddha institutes starting from the academic session 2016-17.

The Central Government has given its nod for the establishment of 46 AYUSH Medical Colleges. This will include 422 Ayurveda, 3 Unani and 1 Siddha institutes starting from the academic session 2016-17. The information was declared by the ShripadYesso Naik, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH, in his written response to the Lok Sabha on February 3, 2017.

Different regulations have been set in place to set up these new medical colleges for Ayurveda education. The setting up of these colleges will be regulated by the Establishment of New Medical College, Increase of Admission capacity and Training by a Medical College and Opening of New/Higher Course of Studies/Regulations, 2003.

Minimum Standard Requirement, Regulations 2016, is another regulation that will be kept in mind for the establishment of these institutes. All these regulations were designed under the Indian Medicine Central Council Act, 1970.

The is a legislative authority set up as per the provision of The Indian Medicine Central Council Act, 1970, had also set up the legislative authority Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM). CCIM was set up to regulate educational activities related to the field of Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani.

CCIM is responsible for setting up the guidelines and implementing them with the approval of the Central Government. The aim of the council is to promote Ayurveda and other traditional medicinal practices. It also plans to encourage education in the field of Ayurveda.
