5th Convocation IIT Gandhinagar Held, Degrees Awarded to 262 Graduates

Fifth convocation of theIndian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagarwas held in Palaj on August 6, 2016. The chief guest of the event was Senapathy “Kris” Gopalakrishnan, Co-founder of Infosys.

Degrees were conferred to 114 B.Tech students, 79 M.Tech students, 30 M.Sc. students, 23 Ph.D. students, 12 M.A. students and 4 PG DIIT students. Apart from this, 43 medals and awards for achievement in the field of academic, leadership, sports and community service were also given to the students who were graduating.

Gopalakrishnan addressed the gathering on the event and said that students must thrive to understand the values that govern their lives and have an entrepreneurial mindset. He also motivated them to have their own definition of success and contribute for the betterment of the society.

He also talked about the scope in the field of technology and said that data and information are witnessing exponential growth. He added that there are a lot of options as well as opportunities. Students can graduate in simultaneous fields and learn multiple skills, he said.

Some of the students graduating from various fields have also received international experience with the help of summer internships and international conferences. An experience in doing an overseas internship and attending conferences at prestigious international institutions like California Institute of Technology, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Duke University, National University of Singapore, etc., has enhanced the skills of individuals.

Prof. Sudhir K Jain, Director, IIT Gandhinagar said that excellence of the institute is largely dependent on its ability to raise humanitarian funds. He further added that until this day the college had received more than Rs. 20 crores from well-wishers, and Rs. 20 crores more has been promised.

The director also added that the institute will start awarding scholarships funded entirely by the alumni of the college with the help of the fund that the alumni have been offering the institute on a monthly basis.

IIT Gandhinagar also provided its students with the option to defer their placements for up to 2 years in case they want to pursue alternative career paths.
