9 Dental Colleges Under Baba Farid University of Health Sciences to Charge Uniform Fee

9 dental colleges under Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) have given the approval to charge a uniform fee. Also, nine out of eleven dental colleges of BFUHS have decided to refund the excess fee charged to all the students selected after the first counselling session.

The decision was made in a meeting presided by Dr. Raj Bahadur, the vice-chancellor of BFUHS. The meet took place before the second counselling session for the available seats in master of dental surgery (MDS) programme.

Directors of the nine dental colleges came up with a common fee structure and received an approval for it. However, Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Dental Sciences and Research in Amritsar and Christian Dental College in Ludhiana chose to stick with the old fee structure.

Earlier, a meeting was conducted to bring equality in the fee structure. The vice chancellor with the Principals of all the affiliated colleges had initiated it but then the colleges were not able to reach a consensus.

A senior official of the institute said that this time the meeting which was held on Wednesday proved to be fruitful in terms of the decision regarding fee structure. Earlier, the fee used to vary from Rs. 2.5 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh depending on the course popularity. He informed that the nine colleges other than the ones located in Ludhiana and Amritsar dropped their previous fee structure in order to bring parity so that no exploitation is faced by the students in the terms of the tuition fee charged.

Meanwhile, the second round of counselling for the seats available in MDS course took place at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College recently. The varsity conducted the counselling for MS and MD before that.

The online applications process began from May 29 for the candidates eligible with the reduced cut-off percentile obtained in NEET-PG examination 2017.

The institute had got hundred fresh applications for the second counselling round which included 21 applications for MDS seats while 74 applications for the seats in MD and MS programme and 5 for ultrasonography course. In total, 94 seats are available for the MDS degree including 55 management seats, 35 seats reserved for government colleges and the rest filled on the basis of all-India quota.

The Supreme Court had set aside the verdict of Haryana and Punjab court to revise the merit list for postgraduate admission in medical courses and directed the state government to continue with the counselling procedure. BFUHS's first counselling was already conducted from April 13 to 15.
