ABVP Plans to Establish a Strong Base in Mumbai University
After the triumph in DUSU, the MU student election is high on ABVP's plan.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which proceeded with its winning streak in the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) this year, is taking steps to build a strong base in University of Mumbai (MU) in the coming student elections as well.
The ABVP, a student association with an ideological connection to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) which has given the state ministers, corporators, legislators and social workers, has developed in prominence and proportion within the MU in the recent years.

After the triumph in DUSU, the MU student election is high on ABVP's plan. The association has positioned one of its eight national secretaries, Ashish Chauhan, in the city.
While MU has not permitted student elections over ten years, the elections could make a rebound with the amended Maharashtra Public Universities Act. The Bill, expected to be passed in the winter session of 2015, was conceded to the current year's winter session. In any case, the Bill is yet to be tabled. While MU is working with specially appointed bodies, the ABVP is using the postponement to its advantage by expanding its stronghold.
Arrangements for a National Conference are in full swing in a little office in Matunga that was attacked in January after the alleged suicide of Dalit researcher Rohit Vemula. The meeting scheduled to be held at Indore between December 24 and 27, 2016 will see the participation of 175 delegates from Mumbai alone—the greatest from the city since 2010.
For better organisation, the city has been divided into 13 association 'districts'. A secretary heads every "district", and all secretaries are led by Rohit Chandode, City Secretary.
The Karyakartas of every area have been given the responsibility of visiting affiliated colleges of universities within the "district" and conveying students’ issues to the fore. Apart from membership drives, they discuss problems and open dialogue with the authorities.
