Acharya Institute Organises Educational Trip to GSL & Indian Coast Guard
- Acharya Institute of Technology organized an educational trip for the students to GSL and Indian Cost Guard.
Students from the institute got an insight into the processes involved in the shipbuilding and gained knowledge about various sea operations.
The Department of Aeronautical Engineering, Acharya Institute, Bangalore organized an educational trip for its students to Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) and Indian Coast Guard, from October 16 &17, 2017.
Goa Shipyard Limited is regarded as the hub of shipbuilding. GSL is located at Vasco Da Gama, Goa, west coast of India. It was India’s first defense shipyard and is equipped with all modern equipment such as modern shift lift for docking and launching of ships. Students from the institute visited the maintenance and manufacturing units of the GSL. They got an insight into how the different types of tools work, process, materials used and the hard work involved in shipbuilding.
From their visit to Indian Coast Guard, students gained knowledge about how real life sea operations take place. ‘INS SUNANYA’ is the latest rescue ship added to Indian Coast Guard. It is a surveillance and rescue ship which can perform various multiple tasks and is installed surveillance camera with a range of 25 km. Another unique feature of INS SUNANYA that it could go 20 knots faster than the older rescue ships and has a 30mm automatic gun for defense.
The last destination of the trip was Naval Aviation Museum which is a military museum situated in Bagmalo, Vasco Da Gama Goa. The museum is one of its kind as it showcases the evolution of Indian Naval Air. It is divided into two parts an indoor gallery showcasing various masterpieces and an outdoor exhibit.

The organizers of the educational tour were Prof. Shwetha, Dr. S.K. Maharana, Prof. Parameshwar Banakar, Kiran Sagar among others.
