The higher education body in technical education, i.e., All India Council for Technical Education or AICTE has warned all the engineering colleges across the country that they will be penalized if they do not maintain required student-faculty ratio. Last week, AICTE issued a notification stating that action will be taken against engineering colleges if they do not follow pay scales as prescribed.

AICTE further clarified that if technical institutes do not have prescribed student-faculty ratio, they will have to face the reduction of intake or suspension of the admission process. The new norms of All India Council for Technical were approved last week and all the colleges need to follow these norms strictly. New norms relating to grant of approvals to technical institutions were also approved by AICTE in a meeting that was held last week.

As per official information that was given by AICTE, there are 3,000 technical institutes across the country registered under All India Council for Technical Education.

One of the senior officials of AICTE indicated that the colleges that fail to maintain student-faculty ratio would not only face suspension of admission process and reduction of intake but also witness suspension of approval for supernumerary seats.

AICTE also laid down some new rules and regulations for faculty members working in technical institutes. It is mandatory for all faculty members to following the timings strictly, if they are working in evening colleges. AICTE will carry out surprise inspections in these colleges and take action if the colleges are found violating norms.
