The Aligarh Muslim University has taken the decision, not to participate in CUCET 2022-23, which is conducted by the National Testing Agency for all the central universities. University officials stated that the varsity would like to maintain the status- quo on its admission policy.  The Aligarh Muslim University has not obtained the minority status and it is under judicial consideration. Hence, the officials of the university decided to withdraw from CUCET 2022-23.

National Education Policy (NEP 2020) envisioned CUET to take place effectively from the next academic year, which was not possible and did not take place because of the great pandemic Covid-19. CUCET was launched in the year 2010, but only 7 Central Universities accepted and participate in it by then. The government wanted all the Central Universities to take part in it at one point of time but most of the varsities did not accept it as they thought that the quality of admissions might go down.

The Ministry of Education has already declared that there would be a Central Universities Entrance Test for the academic year 2022-23, which is conducted for admissions to all undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Some of the highly reputed Central Universities namely Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Delhi, Banaras Hindu University, Delhi University have decided to participate in CUCET 2022.

The academic council of Aligarh University decided that the university would continue with the existing admission policy by conducting its own entrance examination like previous years until AMU gets clarity on minority status from the Supreme Court. Jamia Millia Islamia is another University, which supposed to take a decision in participating in CUCET 2022, as its minority status is also in sub-judice.
