Amity University has withdrawn plans to buy two for-profit colleges in New York City and Massachusetts. The varsity had filed paperwork in the month of July proposing to buy the Art Institute of New York and New England Institute of Art which are owned by Pittsburgh-based Education Management Corp. Amity University planned to buy these campuses as a part of global expansion.

The officials of Education Management Corp clarified that Amity University has withdrawn the plan and did not mention the reason for this. However, one of the officials in Massachusetts stated that there is no track record for Amity University in the US and hence they were skeptical of the chain.

Maura Healey, State’s Attorney General in Massachusetts, explained that the sale was a bad idea as Amity University does not have experience in American higher education. He indicated that students in Massachusetts deserve the education and careers they were promised. These students did not like to be treated as a source of income and shunted aside when they are no longer profitable.

Amity University has extended its campuses from India and opened campuses in South Africa, China, England and five other countries. However, Amity dreamt of a US campus which would be popular for international students seeking an American education.

Recently, Amity University has purchased a campus on Long Island in New York. It paid $ 22 million in the month of September to buy 170-acre site from St. John’s University in New York City.
