It seems like B.Ed (Bachelor of Education) is losing charm in Andhra Pradesh. In the last two years, more than 60% B.Ed seats were vacant in various colleges across the state. Most of the graduates are not interested to take up B.Ed course due to fewer posts in government schools. On the other hand, the state government has not been releasing notification for teacher recruitments at least twice a year. The last teacher recruitment was in 2014, and the government is yet to release notification in 2018.

AP EDCET 2018 counselling for the admission to B.Ed course has been completed. As per the official details disclosed by Andhra Pradesh State Council for Higher Education (APSCHE), only 2,891 seats out of 25,672 seats have been filled. The situation of most of the B.Ed colleges across the state is deplorable, as most of them failed to attract at least 20 students.

This year, only 7,505 candidates appeared for AP EDCET 2018. Out of them, only 3,171 candidates turned up for the counselling. Even though 3,171 candidates completed the certificate verification process, only 2,891 candidates (11.26%) students confirmed admission. The candidates who secured seats must pay the course fee and report to college by July 23, 2018.

Since 89% of B.Ed seats remained vacant across the state, APSCHE will conduct second round counselling for the admission to B.Ed course from July 30, 2018.

AP government has been delaying the TRT (Teacher Recruitment Test) notification over the past two months. The education department has forwarded the proposal for conducting TRT to Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The CM is yet to take a call on TRT.
