N Sailaja, Special Officer of Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) has revealed that around one lakh youth will be trained in various skills through a massive programme of skill development.

She held a meeting with the representatives of MNCs regarding holding job fairs in Chittoor and other districts across the state. On this occasion, she mentioned that APSSDC has set up training centres in a total number of 190 colleges across the state. On the other hand, a total number of 360 colleges have registered with APSSDC for taking up massive skill development programmes for unemployed youth. She indicated that APSSDC has been working consistently to increase the number of training centres to cover more youth.

One of the notable achievements of APSSDC is setting up of ‘Youth Training Centre (YTC)’ in tribal areas. Last year, around 1,600 students were trained with the support of Tribal Welfare Department. Similarly, the training for 10,000 tribal youth is underway this year.

She announced that Chittoor district is leading in conducting job fairs and providing placements in the state. In the current fiscal year, around 13,000 candidates were registered in job fairs in which 1,400 candidates got placed. Unlike other districts, Chittor is close to Chennai and Bangalore where most of the MNCs including leading software firms are located.

She further added that, currently, APSSDC is giving more emphasis on improving skills among college students and youth so that corporate firms employ them. She expressed that the number of ‘drop outs’ is still high among the selected youth as only 65 percent of the selected youth by MNCs or other firms settled in their jobs. Hence, it is time for the parents to imbibe work culture which is still lacking in the youth.
