Assam Floods: NEET PG 2022 Aspirants Demand to Postpone Exam

Assam floods have submerged about 20 districts and suspended all railway transfers. Candidates seek a postponement of the NEET PG 2022 exams, stating that candidates will not be able o report to the exam centres.

Due to unforeseen circumstances in Assam, the demand for NEET PG 2022 postponement has started. Aspirants are demanding a postponement of the exams taking into consideration the Assam Floods. Currently, in Assam, about 20 districts and about 2 lakh people are affected by the flood. The Railway computation in the southern part of Assam is suspended due to flood, as tracks are submerged underwater. Approximately 26 trains are cancelled and communication to Mizoram and Tripura via train is also suspended. As per the local news reports, 7 people have died due to flash floods and landslides. People are being rescued by the authorities.

NEET PG 2022 has turned out to be the most controversial exam in the past few years with constant demands to postpone exam. Aspirants appearing for the NEET PG 2022 have requested a postponement of the exam, scheduled on May 21, 2022. The aspirants also pleaded with the Supreme Court of India regarding the postponement of the exams, which was rejected by the SC and advised to proceed with the scheduled dates. However, now with the current situation of the Assam floods, the aspirants have once again started to demand postponement.

On the previous matter, the SC declared that, if the NEET PG 2022 exams are to be delayed, it will also affect the NEET PG 2023. Further, the court stated that India is short of doctors and requires immediate recruitment. The conducting body stated that it is against the request. The Union Health Ministry was also against the postponement of the exams. Aspirants of NEET PG 2022 demanded the postponement of the exams on the basis that NEET 2021 counselling had just ended, and they are not well prepared for NEET PG 2022.

Amidst such havoc and crisis, NEET PG 2022 aspirants are demanding postponement as candidates will not be able to reach the exam centres. There are five districts in Assam with NEET PG 2022 exam centres. Candidates will have to report to any of these exam centres as per their preferences. However, with the current situation and continuous rainfall and no changes in the weather, candidates may not be able to report for the exams.

Many doctors and aspirants are tweeting about the matter on Twitter by asking for a postponement of the NEET PG 2022 exam. Aspirants have tagged the Union Health Ministry, Mansukh Mandaviya and PM Narendra Modi with the plea. Some practitioners state that postponement by a few weeks will not affect the schedule, and postponement is necessary for the given situation. However, there is no update on the matter by the Union Health Ministry yet.
