After President Donald Trump announced the changes in the US immigration policies, students have started reconsidering their options for abroad education. In this change of tide, Australia is gaining popularity amongst students.

With the favoring conditions in the educational market, the Australian Government has started a campaign to lure Indian students for higher studies. The campaign is working effectively as about 80,000 students had enrolled for various education and training courses in 2016.

Australian universities have reported a drastic rise in the number of Indian students enrolling for different programmes. Experts say that the number is likely to grow in the next few months. Currently, Australia is ranked third in the list of most favoured destination for international students. The US and UK hold the top two positions respectively.

Australia has set a record in 2016 with 78,424 enrollments from Indian students. There has been 8.9% increase in the number of enrollment since 2015. China is Australia’s largest contributor of international student contributor with 196,315 students enrolled in 2016 and a rise of 15.7% since 2015.

Also, Indian students contribute 14.7% of the total strength enrolled in the vocational training courses. Melbourne has been one of the most preferred cities for education among the Indian students. 34,347 Indian students are enrolled in several Victorian institutes in Melbourne.

New South Wales is another popular Australian destination with 18,900 Indian students enrolled there in 2016. The figures clearly state that there has been improvement in Australia’s international education sector. This has also generated more than $21 billion (Rs.1 trillion) of economic activity in Australia.

According to reports, the number of international students in Australia is expected to rise in 2017. Hence, the revenue generated by international education will also touch a new high. Most of the growth is being credited to President Trump's contentious policies.

More students are planning to enroll for Australian universities since the US immigration norms are expected become hostile under Trump’s government.
