The High Court of Bombay sought a response from the state government and Mumbai University on the inconvenience caused to students due to delay in declaration of final year examination results. The court sought the response while hearing several petitions filed by students and various organisations on the delay in declaring the results.

The varsity had violated various deadlines and failed to declare the results within the stipulated date. A couple of days back, the varsity declared final year B.Sc and B.A results of 5th and 6th semester. According to sources, the varsity will try to declare the results in two phases. The varsity had now assured to declare all the results by August 24, 2017.

A student who completed LLB course at the University of Mumbai filed a petition seeking Rs. 10 lakh compensation for the loss of educational and employment opportunities due to the delay in declaration of results. The petitioner claimed that the seats in almost all the good colleges have been filled with only limited seats remaining. If the results are out by August 24, 2017, the students could apply for at least the third round.

The court further clarified that it is the responsibility of the varsity and the state government to tackle the various issues raised by students.

Even though the varsity declared the results of final year BA and B.Sc courses, the results of few students were not released due to various reasons like missing or untraceable papers. For tackling these kinds of issues, the University of Mumbai has set up the help desk to assist the students in sorting out the problems. A team of 10 officials and teachers have been working throughout the day to sort out the problems of students. The team is also assisting the students in getting admission to various colleges.

So far, the help desk received 1,500 applications seeking results, and 1,200 issues have been sorted out. For instance, a student who scored 97% percent was shocked when his result was not displayed. She approached the help desk and submitted the application. After the investigation, the helpdesk realised that her Operational Research Training papers were untraceable. The issue was then sorted out within a day.
