B.Tech seats in Telangana government and private engineering colleges will be reduced from 96,518 to 93,000 for the upcoming academic session (2019-20). In the last four years, there has been a constant decline in the number of B.Tech seats offered by colleges in Telangana.

According to sources, eight engineering colleges across Telangana have submitted the application for the closure of colleges for the academic session 2019-20. These colleges have decided to shut down due to a large number of vacant seats every year. All these colleges are affiliated to JNTU-Hyderabad, and applications for progressive closure of colleges were submitted to the varsity.

Some colleges have also applied for the closure of engineering branches that failed to attract students in the last few years. Almost 26 engineering branches will be scrapped for the upcoming academic session, and no student will be enrolled in these courses.

The deadline to submit applications for the shutdown of colleges and closure of engineering branches was closed on February 05, 2019.

In all, almost 3,500 B.Tech seats in Telangana are expected to be slashed for the next academic session. If any college fails to maintain standards as per JNTU-Hyderabad affiliation rules and AICTE procedures, the colleges will have no other option expect to shut down. If this scenario happens, engineering (UG) seats will be slashed further.
