B.Tech Students of BBAU Protest Against University’s Decision to Discontinue the Course

  • More than 300 students from the varsity protested against the decision of shutting down the B.Tech programme.
  • As per the students, the decision will have an adverse effect on final year students as the university is not even recognized by AICTE.

Engineering students of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University- BBAU are protesting against the university’s decision regarding the closure of B.Tech programme from the new academic session. More than 300 students from the university sat down in the front of the administrative building on Monday, 26th March 2018 and demanded that the varsity should continue with B.Tech programme. Following the protests, the university authorities decided that they will continue with the B.Tech course and focus on improving the infrastructure.

As per the reports, students have also demanded recognition of the B.Tech programme from All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) so that they could get the required infrastructures such as labs and workshops. It will also fetch them better career and placement opportunities.

One of the B.Tech student, Abhishek Singh, stated that the university decided to shut down the course without realizing the consequences of the same on their career and placement perspectives. He also said that since the course is not recognized by AICTE which could further complicate the matter for students passing out from the university.

After hours of protests from the student's end, the university called a meeting to discuss the matter and decided to not to discontinue the programme. Vice-Chancellor of the university has sanctioned a grant of Rs. 25 lakhs to work on the infrastructure of the engineering department, thereby confirming that the B.Tech course is open for the new academic session.
