Government to Launch Demat Account for Educational Certificates Soon
- Through National Academic Depository (NAD), the students and employers can access the verified certificates and documents digitally.

The government is all set to launch National Academic Depository (NAD) that regulates physical authentication of education certificates during admissions. Through NAD, all the educational certificates of the students will be available online.
About National Academic Depository (NAD): -
Through NAD, the students and employers can access the verified certificates and documents digitally. The initiative has been taken to check the menace of fake degrees and certificates. The academic awards of the students will also be verified under NAD on the request initiated by the authorised user.
NAD will be operationalized by CDSL Ventures (CVL) & NSDL Database Management (NDML) the two subsidiaries of Depositories registered under Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Act, 1992.

As per the process, academic institutes will be given the responsibility of uploading the data digitally, and NAD will ensure the integrity of data. NAD will register educational institutions, students, eligibility assessment bodies, boards and other users, employer companies, academic institutions and government agencies.
NAD will maintain confidentiality, authenticity and integrity of its database. It will train the academic institutions, boards and eligibility assessment bodies to efficiently lodge academic awards in the database.

Through NAD, an employer can also check the academic awards of a candidate. However, the access for the same will be granted only with the consent of the student.
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave approval for the establishment of National Academic Depository (NAD) in October 2016 which will provide digital or a printed copy of the degree or academic award with security features to students and other authorised users. The primary objective of establishing NAD is to take a step towards the enhancement of ‘Digital India’ initiative.
