Calicut University to take Strict Action against Thesis Defaulters
Calicut University to send a strong message to students who have failed to submit their research thesis on time.
Calicut University has decided to send a strong message to students who have failed to submit their research thesis on time. Notice will be issued to those research scholars who have not submitted their thesis even though years have passed since they registered for Ph.D. programmes. The university is also planning to recover the fellowship that was given to these students.

Show cause notices will be issued by the university to defaulting research scholars asking them to pay back the money that was given to them as aid under central and state fellowship by various agencies to fund their research.
P Sivadasan, Syndicate Member said that notices have been sent to 30 researchers who have failed to finish their research in more than the due time and have not yet submitted their thesis. Out of these, 20 researchers have given sent in their written explanation while 10 have failed to even respond to the notice. Such students will be asked to return the fellowships they received for their research, added Sivadasan.
In 2014, the Calicut University had also written to the state government, asking to recover a huge amount of money paid from public exchequer as teacher fellowship. The fellowship was provided to over 102 teachers who failed to submit their Ph.D. research thesis promoted under the UGC - funded Faculty Improvement Programme (FIP).

The university has also taken strict action against such defaulters and have submitted a list of teachers to the state government and asked to take strict against them.
