The question paper of CAT 2021 in Slot 1 had a total of 66 questions, unlike in 2020 when there were a total of 76 questions asked in the exam. In the section of Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), 24 questions were asked. 20 questions were asked in the section of Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) and Quantitative Ability (QA) comprised 22 questions.

This year, IIM Ahmedabad decreased the number of questions in the CAT 2021 question paper. The revised paper pattern of CAT 2021 was as follows.
