CBSE Class 12 Chemistry 2026 examis officially scheduled for February 28, 2026. You must already be curious about the expected difficulty level and which chapters will carry more marks. If we carefully study the board papers from 2023, 2024, and 2025, one clear pattern appears - the upcoming paper is most likely to fall under a “Moderate” difficulty level. But moderate does not mean easy.

We have noticed that over the past few years,CBSE boardhas slowly moved away from pure memory-based questions. The board is now focusing more on concept application, analytical thinking, and case-study-based formats. The syllabus is still strictly NCERT-based, but the framing of questions is changing. Instead of asking direct theory like “define this” or “state that,” the board now asks “why does this happen?” or “how will this change if…?”

Also, nearly 95% of the previous Chemistry papers (2023-2025) were directly based on NCERT textbook examples, back exercises, and in-text questions. However, many of those familiar questions were slightly modified, especially the numerical ones. For CBSE Class 12 Chemistry 2026, you can expect more twisted example-based numericals and case-based MCQs.

Problem-solving and case studies

2025

Moderate

The paper closely followed the official sample papers. Organic Chemistry was relatively easy and scoring. Physical Chemistry was time-consuming

Electrochemistry and Biomolecules

2024

Moderate to Tough

There were more case-based questions compared to previous years. Some numerical problems in Physical Chemistry were challenging.

Coordination Compounds and Ketones

2023

Moderate

The paper was well-balanced. Many Organic Chemistry questions were directly from the textbook, but required thorough knowledge of name reactions..

After talking to multiple prospective test takers, we have noticed that students expect the CBSE Chemistry exam 2026 to be more challenging because 50% of the questions will now be competency-based. This means there is a lot of focus on case studies and real-life chemistry scenarios. Many students are also feeling nervous about the Physical Chemistry numericals because they have become more application-oriented.

You should also note that many have described the recent Chemistry papers as "lengthy". Because of this, you must currently prioritise speed and practice with sample papers to ensure you can finish all sections within three hours.
