In response to High Court of Gujarat notice regarding the tough NEET question paper in Gujarati medium, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has clarified that it set different sets of question papers including the ones in Gujarati medium to avoid leakage of question paper. CBSE filed the response on June 6, 2017. However, the court did not agree with the argument of CBSE and indicated that leakage of question paper is even possible in English medium.

CBSE will approach Supreme Court challenging the interim stay on the declaration of NEET-UG 2017 results by Madras High Court. The same will also apply to Gujarat High Court.

CBSE also justified that around 90% students appeared for the NEET-UG 2017 in the English medium, and only 8-10% of students took the examination in regional languages. The board also pointed that the chances of paper leakage are higher in regional languages. Therefore, it becomes easy for the board to conduct re-examination in regional languages, as only 8-10% of students might appear for the examination. On the other hand, the majority students who took NEET in English medium will remain unaffected.

However, the court expressed dissatisfaction over the explanation given by CBSE, as leakage can be possible in any language whether it is English or the vernacular languages.

One of the officials of CBSE who was present at the court stated that the interim stay on the declaration of results is also applicable to Gujarat High Court until June 12, 2017. Madurai bench of Madras HC posted the matter for the next hearing to June 12. He further mentioned that the Board will not declare the NEET-UG 2017 until the matter is resolved.

On the other hand, CBSE is making all the efforts to approach Supreme Court against the interim stay on results. It seems like CBSE does not want to postpone the results further.
