The central government has recently urged the International Ranking Agencies to revise their parameters for developing countries like India. The centre has urged to include the diversity of India into their parameters and consider that as a major diversity parameter which is taken into consideration for the rankings.

The Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Mr D P Singh informed the same in the conference of Vice-Chancellors of Gujarat Vidyapith. The two days conference started on Monday, 30th September.

DP Singh informed that the central government of India is having a direct dialogue with the global ranking agencies. They have been asked to consider revising some parameters for developing countries like India.

He stated that some of the parameters deal with social concerns, education facilities for minorities, marginalised sections, women's’ education, ST/SC community education, education for rural areas etc. These sectors and the diversity of demographics Indian institutes have is not included any of the parameters. Mr Singh further added that the government will leave no stones unturned to make the changes.

The recent Times Higher Education (THE) Ranking has not featured any of India’s leading institutes in its top 300. This came as a big blow to the Indian education sector. Some Indian experts have suggested that this is a result of not having a thorough idea of the Indian Education Sector which is different in many cases than the other education sectors in the world. However, the QS World University rankings have come as a breeze of fresh air after THE rankings.
