Union Cabinet Approves Medical College in Dadra & Nagar Haveli
The central government has given its nod for the establishment of a medical college in Daman-Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. As a first step, Union Cabine approves up of the medical college in Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
Thecentral governmenthas approved the setting up offirst medical collegefor Union Territories ofDadra and Nagar HaveliandDaman-Diu. For this purpose, the Union Government has approved Rs. 189 crore and the amount is used for the construction of the medical college. The medical college will come up at Sayli in Silvassa. According to sources, the medical college will start functioning from the next academic year, i.e., 2019-20. As a first. Union Cabinet has given its approval for a medical college in Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

During his visit to Daman-Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli on February 24, 2018, Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi assured the people of the region that the government will set up a medical college to promotemedical educationandhealthcare services. The medical college will offer100 seats, out of which 50 will be reserved to aspirants from Daman-Diu, while 50 seats will be reserved to students from Dadra & Nagar Haveli.
Since 1961, people in these two union territories have been demanding for a medical college. Finally, it is time to rejoice as the government considered the long-standing demand of the people.

The construction of medical college will begin soon and the Union Home Ministry will check the progress of the college every three months.
