The provisions of New Education Policy (NEP), no detention policy and "mainstreaming out" of school children are the key issues that the state governments and Center will talk about at the prominent Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) meet planned on October 25, 2016. One of the key issues that will be discussed at the meeting of CABE, the most significant admonitory body of the Center in education, is the 'no detainment policy' under the Right To Education (RTE) law which recommends that students will be automatically promoted to the next class till Class VIII.

In any case, a few states have expressed unhappiness over the provision saying it has influenced the quality of learning and are therefore looking for changes in it. The HRD Ministry has been thinking about rolling out improvements in the policy, and the issue will be discussed in the CABE meeting where Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar will hold consultations with education ministers from various states, a superior authority revealed.

Another crucial area on which discussions will be held is the formulation of New Education Policy. The HRD Ministry has received suggestions from different quarters on recommendations of the TSR Subramanian Committee on NEP. The ministry is presently planning to appoint a committee to work on NEP. The committee will have eminent educationalists as a part of it.

Improving the infrastructure of government schools, an extension of RTE to pre-school and secondary education are alternate issues on the agenda of the CABE meeting which will be attended by top government functionaries.
