CM of Maharashtra Announces Fee Waiver for Students with Family Income Less than Rs. 6 Lakhs

6,000 students of govt colleges and 1,45,000 students of private colleges will be benefitted through this scheme.

After the meeting with State Cabinet, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis announced that they have decided to give concession on fees to students whose family income is less than Rs. 6,00,000. This fee waiver will be given for higher education programs and professional courses, it also includes courses like engineering and medicine. With this decision of Maharashtra government, 6,000 students of government colleges and 1,45,000 students of private colleges will be benefitted.

The decision comes under the ‘Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj Fee Pratipurti Yojana’ which was implemented earlier to benefit the reserved category students. The SC and ST students were given 100 percent concession on fees while OBC students were given 50 percent. According to the new rule fee, the waiver will be given only to the students who score at least 60 percent at the time of admission and have a family income around Rs. 6,00,000. There is no condition for students who family income is below Rs. 2,50,000.

The government really wants to change the face of education and has decided to invest the money at the right place. The government will soon also be implementing a scheme called ‘Punjabrao Deshmukh’. Under this scheme, the government will give hostel fee to the students whose parents are farmers or registered laborers. They will also implement the ‘Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Swayam Yojana’. Under this scheme, the government will give the tribal students the facility of food and hostel.


The government is spending almost Rs. 1,000 crore on all these schemes and hope to see good results soon.
