A Design Aptitude Test (DAT), on the lines of CAT, may become a reality for those students who want to pursue their higher education in design.
Down the line, in around two years, a Design Aptitude Test (DAT), on the lines of CAT (Common Admission Test) which conducted for the management aspirants, may become a reality for those students who want to pursue their higher education in the field of design throughout the country.

The idea has been mooted in several meetings of the India Design Council (IDC). IDC is an autonomous body under the Central Government. While sharing the information, Director of Ahmedabad-based National Institute of Design (NID), Pradyumna Vyas said that they were contemplating to start Design Aptitude Test on the same lines of CAT. It would reduce the agony of parents and students who have to fill several forms and have to appear for various examination for enrolment in design schools.
He also said that in the beginning, DAT may be used for seeking undergraduate admissions. But later on, it may have an another test for PG programmes. In all probability, it is likely to take shape within next two years. Vyas is also the Member-Secretary of the IDC.

Aspiring candidates armed with DAT scores will be able to get admissions at all reputed design institutions of the country. The move will greatly benefit design aspirants and their parents. The members of IDC have discussed in several meetings the possibility of having DAT similar to CAT examination.
When asked about the private design schools, he said that the decision of whether they wish to adopt DAT or take it as a first step before enrolling students prior to their own studio tests - will be entirely up to them to decide.
