Construction Work of IIT Palakkad Campus to Begin in December 2016
Kerala Government had ensured the required land for the construction of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Palakkad, at Pudussery.
After the Kerala Government had ensured the required land for the construction of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Palakkad, at Pudussery, the construction work for setting up a permanent campus will begin by mid-December, according to a reliable source of the state government.
Of the total 504.54 acres land, advance ownership rights were granted for 29.33 acres by the State government to the Union Ministry of Human Resource on 18th November 2016. The government has issued an order in this regard. As per the report, land registration formalities of 294.78 acres have already been completed.

The main buildings of the IIT will be constructed on the portion of land located next to the public sector Gramalakshmi Press at Kanjikode. As far as construction work is concerned, Central Public Work Department (CPWD) will carry out the construction work. In the first phase, construction of the following would be undertaken -
- Laboratories of the institute
- Students' hostels
- Main administrative complex
Already the Central Government has earmarked INR 63 crore for the first phase. At the same time, the State Government has allocated INR 19 crore for constructing walls for the total 504.54-acre campus. Besides the state government, other donors of land are-
- Pudussery grama panchayat gave 21.84 acres of land for the campus
- State Industry Department gave 70.5 acres
- Forest Department will allocate 44.81 acres
Now the land acquisition process for the remaining 60.91 acres is fast progressing. Right now the IIT is functioning from its temporary campus at Ahalya Group of Institutions in Kozhipara near Walayar.

Around 240 students are studying on the temporary campus for the last two years. In the initial stages, the institute is offering B-tech in four streams like -
- Computer Science and Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
