NEW DELHI: The Central Universities Entrance Test (CUET) is likely to be conducted twice a year starting from 2023. University Grants Commission Chairman Mr. Jagadesh Kumar in an interview with PTI stated that for the academic year 2022, CUET will be conducted once, but for upcoming years, i.e 2023 onwards, the National Testing Agency (NTA) will consider conducting the CUET exam at least twice a year.  Mr. Kumar also said that the entrance exam will not be limited to the Central Universities but also to Private varsities too.  He said that there are other several prominent private universities that showed a sign of acceptance to the CUET examination.

The Central Universities Entrance Test will not make the Board exams irrelevant. CUCET will not give a push to coaching culture according to UGC chairman Jagadesh Kumar. He also stated that students of state boards would be not at a disadvantage in the undergraduate admission process.

Latest News on CUCET (CUET) 2022

UGC chief had already announced a couple of days ago that a CUET score is mandatory for getting admission into any central university. He also stated that 45 central universities are going to participate in the CUET exam 2022 and these varsities have the liberty to set up minimum eligibility criteria and further admission process. When he was asked whether the CUET examination promotes a “coaching culture” for undergraduate admissions he said, “The exam will simply not require any coaching so there is no question of it giving a push to a coaching culture.” CUET 2022 exam will completely depend on the syllabus of Class 12.

Mr. Kumar said, “Eight deemed to be universities including the Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS) and Jamia Hamdard have also expressed a desire to use CUET scores to admit students to an undergraduate course.” He also said that he attended a meeting yesterday with the Vice-Chancellors and Directors of these eight deemed universities who have expressed their positive signs of accepting CUET. These are the universities, which receive funds from UGC.

Students of different state boards will not be at a disadvantage, as CUET will provide a common standard that will be set for everyone. CUET will provide equal opportunities for all the candidates who come from different economic backgrounds, geographical backgrounds, and regional backgrounds. Everyone will be treated equally. Kumar also conveyed that CUET will not make the board exams irrelevant. Universities will consider the percentage of board marks as eligibility criteria but it will differ from university to university
