Delhi HC Seeks Centre’s Response on Reservation Policy in Medical Colleges
MEA has mentioned that the Delhi Government has implemented the reservation policy under defence category in colleges which come under its jurisdiction.
The Delhi High Court has sought a reply from the Central Government on the reservation policy for defence category and its applicability in MBBS and MD courses at Safdarjung Hospital and Vardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC). The court has also directed Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIU) to postpone counselling for the seats covered under five percent quota for defence personnel till the next hearing, that is scheduled for September 22, 2016.

Noor Dhaliwal filed the plea. He mentioned that GGSIU is not applying the reservation policy for defence category in VMMC and Safdarjung Hospital. Justice Sanjeev Sachdev issued a notice to Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to file an affidavit on the issue.
On the other hand, GGSIU submitted a report that mentioned that VMMC and Safdarjung Hospital come under the central government and the policy could not be made applicable. The court in its order stated that providing reservation to the defence category is beneficial for the people who have served this country.
