With the COVID-19 crisis putting spotlight on health care and nurses, Kerala has witnessed a hike in the number of students applying for the Nursing courses. According to the college management in Kerala, the number of students applying for Nursing courses in Kerala under management quota in self-financing colleges is way higher compared to the last few years. The admission process has started from July 22nd, 2020.
Management informed that they have a total of 6235 seats available in the state under 127 colleges and the colleges are already falling short as the demand is way higher. THE Private Nursing College Management Association fo Kerala ( PNCMAK) has already asked the state government to sanction more seats under management quota as they are unable to meet the demand. The number of applications has already crossed 3,000 in 58 colleges under PNCMAK informed Ayira Sasi, PNCMAK Secretary.
He further informed that the pandemic has created a huge demand for health care workers and nurses and the demand is not limited in Kerala but in other states and foreign countries. This is one of the main reasons that the number of students opting for Nursing and Health care courses has gone up. Another reason that the demand is high as students will prefer to study within their state due to the ongoing crisis. The government is yet to increase the seats in existing institutions.
