It is fairly known across the states and students at the school level that taking admission to one of the DU programmes as well as the desired colleges is tasking job on top of the high competition. However, with more than 50% of the students at the undergraduate level at the University of Delhi, admissions are not the only part that they will have to deal with. Sources state that the students who travel from afar, especially from places that speak a different language altogether find it difficult to accomodate themselves in the first few weeks of college.

With the commencement of the 2019-20 academic session at Delhi University, many students have stated that they find it difficult to adjust to the new environment, especially finding affordable accommodation and overcoming the language barriers. Muskan Jain, a fresher at Kirori Mal College pursuing BA (Hons)Political Science stated that she has had trouble in finding cheap or even any Hostel near the college or North Campus, where she could stay. She stated that she has to travel 2 and a half hours on average from Sonipat to the college every day. She further added that it becomes even more difficult with high rents for housing and a limited hostel for girls at the Co-ed Colleges in North Campus.

However, Muskan Jain is not the only undergraduate student who is facing issues in accommodation. Many other students have raised issues similar to hers. With many students opting to live at a housing facility where they have to pay the rent, along with doing all the work that comes along with living at a house all by themselves like house chores and cooking food for themselves, students who have travelled from states other than Delhi are facing many issues. This year, many international students have also taken admission to different programmes at the varsity. This, however, means that such students will not only face issues in accommodation but also in spoken and written language.
