DU Cut-Offs 2018 to Drop! Find Out Why

It may be good news for the students aspiring to joinDelhi Universitythis year. It seems like the colleges affiliated to the University of Delhi may stop setting high cut-off percentages for the admission this year. The development comes after CBSE and 23 state education boards decided to stop the practice of inflating marks awarded in Class 12. The decision of CBSE and state-level education boards will ease the path for entry intoUnder Graduate (UG)courses.

Recently, State Education Department of Tamil Nadu has expressed its opinion regarding the decision to stop inflating the marks in board exams. The State Board of Examination clearly indicated that it has been following the practice of awardinggrace marksonly to pass the borderline cases. The board has also been decided to disclose the policy and quantum for moderation on the website as soon as the final decision is taken.
The officials of CBSE have also agreed with the statement given byState Education Department of Tamil Nadu. A senior official of CBSE explained that the students suffered in the past as the board did not inflate marks artificially. Now, the practice of inflating marks has been stopped, and CBSE is happy that all other state boards have agreed to the same, he expressed.
The moderation policy will enable the school boards to award extra marks to students. However, some state boards used the moderation policy to increase the marks of the students and spiking the overallpass percentageof students. Due to the moderation policy and inflation of marks, thecut-offs of DU collegeshave been high and it touched 100% in the recent years.

In the year 2016, out of the 188 students who got admission toB.Com (Hons)course inShri Ram College of Commerceon the first day of admissions, 129 students were from Tamil Nadu including 33 students from just one school.
