DU: Manifesto for North East Students Launched
The manifesto will provide better facilities and safeguard the judicial rights of NE students particularly Delhi University.
Delhi is a blend of various cultures and traditions. Around 20,000 people from North East (NE) states are staying in Delhi in search for opportunities for better education and employment. However, the crime has been increasing over the past few years.
After having wide consultations with the North East Students of Delhi University, a ‘Special Manifesto’ was launched to recognise the situation and concerns of Northeast students. The manifesto was launched by the National Student Union, India (NSUI) at NE Convention and Cultural Extravaganza at Mavalankar Hall in New Delhi.

The manifesto will provide better facilities and safeguard the judicial rights of NE students particularly Delhi University. The declaration also states that the hostels for NE students will also be a cultural centre to propagate awareness about the myriad of northeast cultures. On the other hand, the manifesto mentioned that the Hindi language should not be made a compulsory subject for the students, and alternative subject must be offered.

The manifesto also stated that the police officers who are recruited from Northeast regions should be assigned duties in all the campuses where most of the northeast students reside.
The cultural extravaganza marked with the huge turnout, especially from the student community. Various cultural programmes depicting the heritage of NE regions were performed, and the crowd was enthralled with the performances.
