DU's SOL and NCWEB to Introduce Semester System
The Delhi University Executive council has approved Choice Based Credit System and Semester examinations from this year for NCWEB and DU’s School of Open Learning. The same format as regular courses will be followed.
The introduction of Semester System in DU School of Open Learning and Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB) has been approved by the Delhi University Executive Council. The same will be applicable from the current academic year. Some members of the council are unhappy with the decision as the classes have already begun and study material has been handed over to the students.
The officials informed that after the introduction of semester system under the CBCS scheme to NCWEB for undergraduate stundents, the semester exams will be conducted at par with the regular students.Also, all the teaching centres of NCWEB will be the examination centre for all its students.
The semester examinations for SOL’s all undergraduate honours programmes shall be conducted along with the regular examinations as per the already existing practice for conducting the SOL examination in annual mode, the officials informed. The reason behind taking the examinations together in a similar format is so that the extra work of preparing separate question papers can be avoided.
The Central Evaluation Centres made by examination wing will undertake the evaluation for SOL Honours Courses for a regular mode of tests as per the DU’s existing practice since the number of students in the SOL’s Honours stream is limited.

Some members of the SOL said that the students have taken admissions in SOL as per the annual examination roll, as many as 1,50,000 lakh students will be facing problems for suddenly implemented semester system and many students are unaware of the changes in the system.

The officials behind this decision claim that this change will be positive in bringing parity between the regular university mode of studies and SOL studies of DU. In no manner, the students from SOL will fall behind the regular course students of Delhi University.
