After introducing some crucial changes in the admission process, the prestigious Delhi University seeks suggestions from parents and students regarding the new admission policies. A feedback form containing 8 to 10 questions has been formulated by the university to get the opinion of students and parents.

The form will soon be put up on the official university website after the approval of the vice-chancellor. Amongst the new policies, DU plans to start the admission process early. Also, the university will be replacing the 12th board exam merit-based system with entrance exam based admissions.

The feedback form will enable DU to get suggestions from students and parents regarding these changes, their advantages and disadvantages. This form will be provided to government as well as private schools.

Other changes have also been suggested by the admission committee appointed by Yogesh Tyagi, Vice-Chancellor of DU. This included the setting up of exam centres in different cities to make the entrance available to students of different states. These changes are yet to be approved by the academic council (AC), Executive Council (EC) and the existing admission committee before they can be implemented.

Many of these changes will not be implemented form the session 2017. However, DU has already announced that that admission process for undergraduate courses will start two months in advance i.e. from the end of March and will continue till June mid.

The decision is expected to allow aspirants more time to prepare and register for different colleges. Board exam percentage can be filled out once the results are declared.

Reaction from Teachers:

Although DU plans to revolutionize the admission process, there are many who are not in favour of the changes being introduced. Some teachers of the university are skeptical about these changes.

Abha Dev Habib, Faculty at DU and Member of EC said that this will limit the chances of students who want to change their stream after class 12. She added that Science students will find it difficult to take admission in subjects like humanities through exams. This will also boost a growth in coaching centres, added Abha.

Some teachers are also doubtful about introducing exam centres throughout the country. Sources say that it will increase the expense of the university as it will create a great demand for logistics. However, some teacher suggested that an entrance exam will introduce transparency in the admission process.
