76% Engineering Seats Vacant in Kerala
76% of engineering seats remained vacant in Kerala self-financing engineering colleges. This year, five colleges across the state recorded zero admissions while 11 colleges were able to fill only half of the engineering seats under merit quota.
Kerala is one of the states that witnessed a huge number of engineering seats left vacant for the academic session 2018-19. Over76% of engineering seatsremain vacant in self-financing colleges across Kerala. Now, these colleges are resorting to different steps to fill the vacant seats. The colleges are inviting the applications from students who did not qualify theKEAM entrance examfor the admission to engineering courses.
The vacant seats inself-financing collegeshave been changed to NRI quota so that non-qualified students can take admission. The candidates who did not score minimum marks in the entrance test can also take admission in engineering courses under NRI quota.

As per KEAM exam rules, the candidates will have to score at least10 marksin each paper to be included in theKEAM rank list. The management of self-financing colleges is ready to grant admission to students who did not score minimum marks in the entrance test and not included in the rank list.
The self-financing engineering colleges in Kerala will conduct spot admission round to fill the vacant seats. Compared to the previous year, the number of engineering seats available under merit quota has increased this year. This year,76% merit seatsremained vacant while67% seatswere unfilled last year.

This year, five colleges across the state recorded zero admissions while 11 colleges were able to fill only half of the engineering seats under merit quota. Out of20,674merit quota seats in 108 colleges, only5,051seats have been filled.
The pass percentage of many engineering colleges is less than 30%. Students in these colleges have no clarity about their future.
