Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Campus to Come Up in Arunachal Pradesh

The Government of India will set up FTII or Film and Television Institute of India in the eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh. The establishment of the institute has been planned on a 50-acre land and the estimated cost of the same is around Rs. 200 crores. This new FTII will be an extended campus of Kolkata-based Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute.

Giving details about the establishment of FTII in Arunachal Pradesh, Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu said that the institute would act as a catalyst for the promotion of talent in the field of filmmaking, particularly in North-Eastern (NE) states. He revealed that the central government will also establish a permanent campus of Indian Institute of Mass Communication or IIMC at Aizwal in the state of Mizoram. The estimated cost for the construction of the permanent campus of IIMC is Rs. 25 crores.

Both IIMC and FTII will provide quality training and education to the youth in filmmaking. Mr. Venkaiah Naidu gave the details about these institutes during a review meeting with Information and Broadcast (I&B) ministry. He discussed various programmes and policies for the North Eastern states and said that IIMC and FTII will serve as a media training hub in the region.

Speaking about the activities and initiatives that have been taken up by Information and Broadcast ministry in NE states, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu revealed that they organized numerous film festivals in the region. He was of the opinion that films are a powerful medium through which message of peace and development can be spread effectively. Recently, National Children’s Film Festival was conducted by I&B ministry in Guwahati.
