First National Sports University of India to be Established in Manipur
- The President of India has given his approval for India’s first National Sports University to be set up in Manipur.
- The University will be established to encourage sports education and training as per international standards.
President Ram Nath Kovind has given his nod for establishing India’s firstNational Sports UniversityinManipur. The ordinance to start this university was forwarded with the approval of the Union Cabinet. TheUnion Cabinethad given its assent for the National Sports University on May 23, 2018.
The first National University will be set up in Imphal, capital of Manipur, with the aim to provide sports facilities and education to enthusiasts who want to enroll in these courses. The university will not only be atraining centrefor some specific sports disciplines but will also offer specialized courses like sports management, sports science and sports technology.

TheNational Sports University Ordinance, 2018 will come into force, now that the President of India has given his approval for the same, mentioned the official press release. I also added that the university will help in encouraging and promotingsports educationand activities in India. Apart from this, it will also help in creatingemploymentopportunitiesfor the citizens of India.
The University will adopt bestinternationalcurriculumand practices in order to impart education to sports enthusiasts. It is the belief of theCentralGovernmentthat the performance of Indiansportspersonswill improve at national as well as international level. The Government of Manipur has also provided 325.90 acres oflandinImphalfor setting up the university.

The National Sports University Ordinance, 2018, was set up on the lines ofNational Sports University Billthat was introduced in the Lok Sabha on August 10, 2017.FinanceMinister, Arun Jaitley, made the announcement regarding the same during the announcement of budget 2014-15.
