Government’s Redraft Education Policy to be Ready Soon: Javadekar

Prakash Javadekar, the Union Minister of Human Resource and Development revealed that the government is in the last stage of completing its redraft education policy. Within two to three months, the redraft education policy will be ready as the government is ensuring that all steps are taken to complete it in the stipulated period.

Prakash Javadekar made this announcement at Today Conclave 2017. He further explained that the government is aiming to grant complete autonomy to IIMs and focus on innovation and research. It is also emphasising on redrafting the education policy. With an objective to improve the quality of education, the government has to relook its earlier decisions.

Javadekar indicated that the ministry has been working consistently to implement new ideas that lay more emphasis on research and innovation. The primary step is to grant autonomy to Indian Institutes of Management as well as to provide scope for incubation centres and startups at Indian Institutes of Technology. The government will also provide scholarships to research scholars so that more students are encouraged to take up research.

With an objective to encourage startups, the government has invited research proposals resulting in the receipt of around 1,500 proposals to set up incubation centres at IITs.

Speaking about the enrolment of students in primary, secondary and higher education, Javadekar pointed that around 270 million students have been enrolled from KG to PG level. Out of 270 million, 14 million students have been enrolled in higher education. As per the statistics, 100 million students enrolled in private schools and 130 million students enrolled in government schools.
